Statement of Purposes

for

Acacia

Indochinese Community Support Association Inc.

 

To encourage and assist in the development of community based child care services, family support and adult learning which:

1.    Ensure children having a safe, loving and developmental environment and sense of security and belonging in their families and the community.

2.    Assist parents in their child rearing practice.

3.    Are based on the needs and aspirations of the families who access the centre.

4.    Are available to all parents with due regard for the fact that most urgent needs for service must be meet first.

5.    Provide a real choice for women in relation to the care of their children as to whether to engage in paid employment or work at home.

6.    Provide opportunities for parents who mind their child at home to participate in the Centre's activities.

7.    Help maintain and develop the children's mother tongue and culture so as to foster their self confidence and provide a stable base from which they can freely interact with other cultures.

8.    Prepare for children a sound foundation in English so that on entering school, they will not lack in language skill.

9.    Encourage parent's participation and community control in all activities of the centre.

10. Serve a diverse adult population by providing learner-centered educational opportunities and experiences that foster personal advancement, life-long learning and educational excellence for all participants.

To achieve these objectives the association shall aim to:

1.    Exchange, disseminate all information and concepts related to the development of child care services through newsletters or other printed material and through workshops, seminar or lectures.

2.    Collect and collate published material or current studies related to the above objects, especially material on bilingual/ bicultural programmes.

3.    Provide consultative services to parents, community groups and local agencies on planning and running child care services and family support system with an ethnic emphasis.

4.    Provide a responsive and innovative adult educational program that enables participants to be literate, productive, and successful in the workplace, home, and community.

5.    Commit to a quality adult education program that is accountable, efficient and meets the needs of adult learners.

6.    Value and respect adult learners and deliver services in a courteous, timely and productive manner.

7.    Encourage creative ideas and strive for continuous improvement in all aspects of adult education.
